If plain porridge is your morning regular, a ripe banana adds sweetness and body as the oats cook.
Here’s how.
- 1
Prepare the banana
Mash half the banana with a fork. Slice the rest for serving.
- 2
Cook the oats
Put oats, water, mashed banana, cinnamon and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring, or follow the oat packet.
- 3
Make it creamy
Stir in half the peanut butter. Add a little water if the oats are thicker than you like and warm through.
- 4
Finish the bowls
Divide between bowls. Top with sliced banana and the remaining peanut butter, loosened with a spoonful of warm water if needed.
A ripe, spotted banana is easiest to mash and brings more sweetness than a firm green one.
