Golden apple & cinnamon porridge

Creamy oats and golden apple pieces with cinnamon. Familiar breakfast, a little more texture.

Let the apple brown before you stir it. Those golden edges make a simple bowl of porridge feel different.

Here’s how.

    Start the apples

    Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add apple in one layer and leave for 3 minutes before turning.

    Make the porridge

    Put oats, oat milk and salt in a saucepan. Simmer gently for 5–8 minutes, or the packet time, stirring frequently.

    Finish the fruit

    Cook apples for another 4–5 minutes until tender. Stir in cinnamon and maple syrup for the final minute.

    Spoon into bowls

    Loosen oats with water if needed. Divide between bowls and top with the warm apples.

Keep the heat moderate: you want golden apple edges before the cinnamon goes in.
